The Process
Contact and Consultation
This is the first step of our process where we gather basic information. After the initial contact, we will arrange a free consultation at a convenient time, where Luke will have a sit down conversation with you, at home. He will discuss your requirements, information about the site and an initial discussion about programme and budget.
Site Survey and Client Brief
Luke will visit you at home at a convenient time. This is where he captures everything required for the design process.
Whether you need a partial or complete garden redesign, Luke will visit your site to develop a brief with you and conduct a thorough survey. This includes photographing and measuring the garden in relation to your house and any existing features. The site survey is then meticulously drawn up in our studio and used to create a new layout for your garden.
If your garden has complex levels or is particularly large, a full topographical survey by an external surveyor may be necessary. We can assist in sourcing and briefing a surveyor on your behalf.
Concept Sketch
Using the information gathered from your site survey and brief, Luke will send over a proposed sketch of your garden design. There will usually be more than one option. We will then arrange a video call or a home visit to discuss the sketches and make any changes. There will be mood-boards and planting examples, as well as material samples and suggestions. There will be a final concept sketch created before moving onto the next stage.
Master Plan
The Master Plan is the final agreed plan that your landscaper will work from to build the garden. It is drawn to scale using measurements taken from the survey and details where the new elements in the garden will sit as well as specifying the materials to be used.
A planting plan will also be created to show the specific plants used and exactly where they will be placed within the design.
Construction
The tender package is then put together and sent to contractors to quote. We can recommend or contact on your behalf, contractors who can bring the designs to life, or you are welcome to use a contractor of your choosing. Once the build is underway, we offer the option for regular site visits to monitor progress, respond to changes and ensure the project is built according to the plans. The level of regularity is up to you - it can be as little as a site visit at the beginning and end of build, to weekly minuted meetings. Luke will personally set out the plants (and usually plant them with the team) when the build is complete.
Sourcing Plants
Luke can provide all plants required for your garden plans at competitive prices using a wide range of quality specialist suppliers. These will be listed in a separate quote.
Fees
You can expect to budget approx. 10-15% of your overall garden costs for Garden Design. Master plans & planting plans are quoted individually depending on the size of the garden and the scope of the project. In addition, 3D visuals, concept sketches, construction drawing, surveys, site visits and sourcing are priced individually for each project and presented as a written quotation.
