About Luke
From a young age I was always outdoors or drawing. My parents would run out of space on the fridge for my various creations (at the time, mostly rhinos, cars, and a certain speedy blue hedgehog). I would then venture out into our Brentford garden and search for insects. I would do my very best to “look after them” (I thought they would be so much better off with my help), feed them, give them a home and of course name them. This intrigue and need to care for nature has never left me.
Nature plays a huge role in my life and helps greatly in encouraging my creativity to come through. There is something about immersing yourself in the sights, sounds and smells of the natural world that creates a mental space, waiting to be filled with ideas. I worked in an office for many years and always felt I was missing something. At one stage I was creating and selling artwork, which I loved, but I would be drawn to the rustling trees, swaying flowers and soaring birds I could see through the windows. I made the decision to search for the piece of me I always felt was missing, and I found that missing piece; it is garden design.
In my own Buckinghamshire garden and in the gardens I design, looking after nature is paramount. As a species, humans have destroyed a significant amount of beneficial insects, animals of all kinds and their habitats, mainly through the use of pesticides and herbicides, as well as a whole host of other damaging processes; industrial farming and sewage disposal, to name a couple. My aim as a gardener and a garden designer is to create a space that is beautiful and welcoming to both the owner and the local wildlife. In turn highlighting the huge benefits wildlife brings. I believe it is completely possible to create a garden that is functional, calming, inviting, beautiful and above all wildlife friendly. We are a part of nature and nature is a part of us. I am here to help bring the immense joy I feel every time I step into my garden, to you. Let’s go on this journey together.
